Drag Kings

Since 1972 a group of female performers dressed in male  attire started to use the term "Drag King" to identify themselves; inspired by Annie  Hindle, a popular broadway actress, this community of male impersonators had been changing people's perceptions and taking recognition all over the world. The group of drag kings includes women who dress in masculine clothing for pleassure or fun and women who wish to be known as men. Many people get confused when recognizing this group because sometimes it is common to see women  wearing ties, jackets, men's hats and suits only for fashion, but these are not considered drag kings. Not all drag kings ar part of lesbian culture, some of them are straight women who want to experiment with male attire and actitudes. Altought this group was created in Los Angeles, San Francisco and New york, drag king shows are becoming easier to find in lot of countries, now individual kings are preparing more 'king shows' and finally sharing the stages with their male counterparts, the drag queens. In Colombia drag kings are not a very common group and sometimes are discriminated, they do their presentations in private events, lesbian parties ad gay bars.

For drag kings been recognized have been a challenge because of the hate  for homosexuals (homophobia) or for people with different ways of expression. The majority of the kings have been mistreated, some people tend to curse them, yell them, hit or even kill them,  Their labor has been ignored, most people only know drag queens and don't consider drag kings' shows important or relevant. Even in the LGBT (lesbians, gays, bisexual and transgender)culture drag kings are rejected and taken for granted, sometimes they are not taken seriously  for male chauvinism. For being part of the gay community, some drag kings are not capable of getting married and they can't also adopt children, this depend on the country the live for example, only kings from Belgium, Spain, Canada, South Africa, Norway, Sweden, Portugal, Iceland, Argentina and United States (some states) can get married.

In my opinion this group should be treated different, I think people must stop treating them as an outcast group, they're still human beings no matter their sexual orientation or their passion for drag perfomances. They have feelings just like us and deserve more recognition for their guts on representing what they really want to be and their passions.
